So beautiful Martha, thank you for this lovely piece as such a reminder of what these women experienced and how they held each other close despite the horror unfolding around them. You are a wealth of information about what Ravensbruck represents and how this time in history connects to Martha's Vineyard which is coming in your next novel. These women and their friendships are so inspiring and thank you for bringing this patinful time in history alive in your writing! Can't wait to celebrate your new book!
Our daughter Barbara Bradbury Pape had the distinct privilege of being site admin at The Bellamy Ferriday house…Caroline and her family were amazingly kind and most generous
I'm always fascinated by what happened after the war ended. There would have been this mass movement of people from the camps back to their home countries. But they wouldn't have had any food or clothes or money. And who knows what they found when they got home.
Do you know of books or films that talk about this? It seems an untold story as a lot of documentaries etc focus just on what happened during the war, not after it.
Amazing history. Thank you. I have only been to Dachau. There is a very small holocaust museum in San Antonio and I read the quote, “Where one burns books, one will in the end burn people.” Heinrich Heine. Already, several of the fabulous novels I taught at Maquan have been banned in some places. So sad. Thank you for keeping history alive!
Bravo! I have read all your books and loved everyone. I hope you will have more events since I am out of town until June 8. Looking forward to the next one!

I knew about Caroline Ferriday from your book, but I hadn't heard of the Swedish rescuers. Could you write a book about them, too?
Thank you.

It’s incredible how their smiles shine so brightly, given what they endured. These photos and their stories are inspirational!
Thanks so much for this reminder of heroism on so many fronts in the face of unthinkable cruelty. Timely and chilling, but also full of hope.
